Tracking Sales on Amazon

Amazon.com has a tracking system that logs every sale in book stores all across the country.  This makes it possible for authors to see where their books are selling and how many are being sold. After I got over the big-brother-is-watching response, I began to appreciate this information.

As a regional author, I’m surprised by the books being sold in obscure parts of the country.  What makes someone in Maine purchase books set in Minnesota?  I speculate that someone’s relative, originally from the area, bought ABERCROMBIE TRAIL after hearing about it at a family reunion.  Perhaps copies of POMME DE TERRE, sold in San Diego, were purchased by snow birds from Minnesota as gifts for their grandchildren.

Whatever the reasons, it’s thrilling to see that my books are selling.  Each sale means a reader.  And readers are why I wrote my historical novels, ABERCROMBIE TRAIL, POMME DE TERRE, and BIRDIE. I encourage you to read them, too, if you haven’t done so yet.  They’re not only entertaining but you will learn something along the way.  Historical fiction is a painless way to learn history.  Try it!  I’ll be glad to track your sale on the Amazon map.

    1. Hi Candace, I’m nearing the end of Pomme de Terre. I read most of it while in my friends’ treehouse in the Northwoods. I wrote about your book and that experience on my blog today.
I have a follower in Maine. Maybe she’s the one who bought your book? How fun to track your book purchases and imagine who might be reading them.
I connected to poor Serena from the start. Pioneer life was hard on the women.

    2. Hi! This is my first visit to your blog! We are a team of volunteers and starting a new initiative in a community in the same niche. Your blog provided us useful information to work on. You have done a outstanding job!
