Teaching Story Structure to Third Graders

I’m nervous.  OK, more than a little nervous.  Though I’ve spoken to adult groups across the region, I’ve been invited to speak to a third/fourth grade multi-age class about my writing experiences.  My plan is to use Cinderella’s story as a model for the group to come up with a short story of their own.

My daughter tells me not to worry.  She says that third graders love everyone and will be eager to participate.  She reminds me of their great imaginations, delight in hands on experience, and interest in creating something new.  I hope she’s right.

The classroom visit is scheduled for next week so I have time to rethink and improve my presentation.  Anyone have advice for me?  I’d love to hear it.
