Letters from 7th Graders

I’ve received a couple of packets of letters from Forestview seventh graders who attended my presentations and read ABERCROMBIE TRAIL as an English project. What fun to hear their responses.

My very favorite is from a student who compliments me on my presentation and then admits that he was absent that day!  Another student said she didn’t like it until page 23 when she started reading “at 100 miles per hour.”  A few suggested alternate endings, and one describes my antagonist as “a self absorbed jerk.” Another said that she was disgusted that my protagonist did not shoot the antagonist when he had the chance.

Writing is done in isolation and I can remember wondering first of all if anyone would ever read my words, and then wondering if they would “get” them.  The letters from students answer both questions in the affirmative.  I’m still smiling.
