Lake Region Review 2011

This week I learned that my short story, MILDRED HANSEL, was chosen for inclusion in this year’s Lake Region Review.    MILDRED HANSEL is one of a  compilation of linked short stories about Minnesota dairy farmers in the 1940s that  I’ve been working on for the past decade.  They’ve been a pleasant diversion between the historical novels.

I love the history of the mid-1940s.  It’s when my parents married and began farming in rural Otter Tail County.  My short story collection examines the changing times, the peculiarities specific to the region, and the relationships between life-long neighbors.

While it’s always a good thing to be published,it’s especially rewarding to have one of my stories recognized.  I feel encouraged to continue this writing project through to publication.  Watch for the Lake Region Review 2011 and let me know what you think of MILDRED HANSEL.  I’m interested in your opinion.
