Blooming Prairie to the Editor

I’ve just given birth to a 106,451 word baby.  Blooming Prairie has been a labor of love and has consumed most of this past season.  As I spent today going over it one last time before sending it off to the editor, I was reminded again of the mysteries of the writing process.

Someone asked me if writing gets easier.  The answer?  Yes and no.  Maybe the discipline of daily writing and wording gets a little easier but certainly the difficulty of getting words onto a blank page remains a challenge.  Where does it come from?  I’m not sure.  But when the creative process is working, good things happen.

I owe a debt of gratitude to my online critique group that has traveled this long journey with me.  Thank you Martha and Teddy.  Blooming Prairie is a better book because of your insightful suggestions and patient forbearance.

Of course, every mother thinks her newborn is beautiful.  I’m waiting to see what the editor will say about it.  Most likely there will still be a few revisions needed.  But oh, what a great feeling that it is born.
