Thanks to Beagle Books in Park Rapids, I have something new to add to my resume. On July 4th, after signing copies of Shelterbelts, I was invited to participate in their annual pie contest as the celebrity judge. There were five of us, tasting our way through a plethora of delicious pies. A rubric kept us on track as we examined the flakiness of crust, taste and appearance of the filling and evaluated the ooze factor. A peanut butter pie won out, as did a fantastic strawberry pie, but it was hard to choose. The pies were judged first, and then auctioned off as a fund-raiser for the Park Rapids Library. I hope they invite me again next year! And just how do you think celebrity pie judge will look on my resume?

What a very hard job! I bet real skill goes into that delicious competition! Which pie did you choose?
loved the peanut butter pie, and a great strawberry pie. those were my favorites.
it takes real skill!
LOL. What fun. What a way to spend the 4th,,,,,,,pies, pies, pies.
Pie judging is an all American 4th of July event that will do wonders for your resume as a community supporter! I like how you put flakiness of the crust top of your judging criteria list.
I have been most unsuccessful at making homemade crust–it’s on my bucket list.
