Yesterday I visited two high school classes in Pillager, MN, and shared my work and writing journey. What joy to find fellow writers among the students. When it comes to writing, age no longer matters. A writer is a writer is a writer.
I was still flying high after my morning with the English and creative writing classes when I received a phone call from someone about a completely mundane matter unrelated to writing. During the conversation, he asked me what I did for a living. Boy, did he get excited when I told him I was a writer with four published novels. Turns out that he is an aspiring writer with a non-fiction book in the works. The topic he had called about became lost in the joy of discussing our mutual passion of words and craft.
My sister, Angela Foster, and I are co-teaching a writing workshop on January 12 at the Crossing Arts Center in Brainerd, MN. We’ve named the workshop, Writing Boot Camp, and look forward to “talking writing” with all those who attend. If you might be interested, check it out at the Crossing Arts Center home page or Blue Cottage Agency.com. We’d love to have you join us for a great day of studying writing.
