C1688 First Stage arriving at Fort Abercrombie painting by Arabel Thortvedt My great grandfather, as a young, Norwegian immigrant, drove the stagecoach to Fort Abercrombie, Dakota Territory . This was back in the 1860s.

This bit of family genealogy resulted in my historical novel, Abercrombie Trail.

This picture is an actual painting entitled, “First Stage to Fort Abercrombie.”  Although the original painting is no longer around, someone wisely photographed it before it disappeared.  Notice the log billet areas, and the reticules carried by female passengers.I like to imagine it’s my ancestor sitting up on the coach.

    1. I saw this at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead recently. I thought it was neat in light of recently reading the books. 🙂

    2. Glad I discovered your blog – I am adding your books to my Christmas list, but might have to go & get one before Christmas! –

    3. I visited Mrs. Simar at Fort Abercrombie a few weeks ago and got her series of books. I just finished Abercrombie Trail and am now reading the 2nd book, Pomme De Terre.
The books are Very well written and hard to put down and I usually never get the time to read. The books take a person right into it!
