Although I’m not usually a violent person, I have been investigating ways to kill the passive voice in my writing. On Saturday, I shared my discoveries with other writers at the Brainerd Writers Alliance Fall Conference held at the Brainerd Library.
The Conference celebrated writing of all genres and levels of expertise. Winners of the Annual Writing Contest read their winning submissions. Penny Swanum, this year’s poetry judge, offered helpful hints about writing poetry. Dr. Marilyn Moses, fiction judge, divulged her best writing tips. I presented my short class on passive voice. Keynote Speaker, Lorna Landvik, author of ANGRY HOUSEWIVES EATING BON-BONS, shared her writing journey and gave a short workshop on character and setting.
Thanks to Bev Abear, Bob Peterson, Carol Campbell and others for their hard work and attention to detail that made this year’s conference the best ever. THANKS Brainerd Writers Alliance. You serve an important role as writing facilitator in the Brainerd Lakes Area.
