What a nice surprise to learn that my short story, MILDRED HANSEL, received the Fiction Award in this year’s Lake Region Review.
MILDRED HANSEL is part of a collection of short stories set in1940s rural Minnesota. I grew up in a township where the only public buildings were one room school houses and the church. My parents married and began farming during the end of WWII, a time when the whole world was changing. This way of life is over and my short stories seek to remind us of the way it used to be.
This project has been a labor of love, something I work on between my historical novels. Thanks, Lake Region Review, for choosing MILDRED HANSEL for the fiction award. I feel encouraged to finish this story collection.
