What could be better than sitting around a table with others who are also passionate about the writing craft? The mentor program started in October is a year-long program to study the basics of good writing. Once a month, five writers gather at my house for Mentor Monday. It’s truly a delight. Message me if you might be interested in signing up for next year’s roster.
The Pencil to Paper Zoom classes are also going well with participants from Hawaii to Germany. We have mystery writers, poets, romance writers, historical fiction writers and a western writer. Together we delve into the writing craft with reading and writing assignments. Every week a guest author shares his or her writing expertise. Last week Stuart Horowitz, founder of Book Architecture editing firm graced us with his presence. It’s always great to hear the experiences of other writers. Message me if you might be interested in attending next year’s Pencil to Paper-eight week zoom classes in January and February.
Finally, I’m doing a beginner writing class called Writing for the Truly Terrified. It will be a one-time zoom class the last week in April. Details still pending, but message me if you are one of the 10% of humans with a desire to write but don’t know where to begin.
Winters in Minnesota are brutal but writing alleviates cabin fever. I hope you are surviving, too, wherever you are. Spring will be here before we know it.

Dear Candace, I recently started re-reading your book, “Dear Homefolks.” Your story about Widow’s Weeds was riveting. I read the entire Abercrombie Trail years ago and was equally impressed by your writing. I hope Minnesota schools use your books in their history classes. I appreciate all the time and effort it took you to come up with such wonderful historical pieces, fictionalized. Many blessings to you this day. Sincerely, Bonnie Connolly
Thank you for your kind comments. I love the history and stories of Minnesota. An 8th grade class at St. Francis School in Brainerd is currently reading Abercrombie Trail and it has been used by other schools in MN and ND in the past. I, too, wish more schools delved into MN history. Have you had a chance to read Escape to Fort Abercrombie? It is my stand-alone novel about immigrants taking refuge at the fort. It won the Will Rogers Gold Medallion and the Peacemaker Award. Thanks again.
